The actual name of the Aloe Barbadensis Miller comes from an important market that was established in a recent past in its place of origin in southern Africa, Barbados and the rest of the islands.
Nonetheless, the qualities of this plant have been known for millenniums. They were already mentioned by the Chinese and Egyptian civilizations, where it was used a medicine to cure wounds and diseases.

This Picture shows us the first and second page of an Egyptian papyrus of the year 1500 AD. The original roll, kept in Leipzig (Germany), contains a detailed description of numerous diseases and recommendations about the use of different natural medicines, among which was the Aloe Vera.
It was rediscovered in the XXth century, in the wake of the Second World War. Its capacity to cure and relieve the wounds caused by nuclear radiation, updated its value. From then on, scientists have performed extensive research that endorses and expands its therapeutic possibilities.
Nowadays we can find it in numerous regions of Africa, America and the Mediterranean area; and it is constantly expanding over the Iberian Peninsula and the Canary archipelago. |
